“Beat This, Shin Splints!” was the Tweet I sent out after wrapping my lower legs in cohesive bandages. Pleased with myself as I headed out on a run, sure that I was taking every precaution to fend off the arrival of another bout of musculoskeletal mystery pain... it’s almost as though I’d never heard of tempting fate.
Where to start? The Couch To 5K programme is still going, and going well… ish. I’m coping with the aches and pains brought on by each run pretty well too… ish.
Couch To 5K is a nine-week plan to take someone, as the name suggests, from the couch to being able to run 5 kilometres. Simple, right?
With holiday festivities in their winding-down phase, it’s time to take stock of the year passed and the next one pending. Before we come over all philosophical, let’s appreciate the gifts from those we cherish as we tidy up and pack them away. No matter the gift, it’s the thought that counts, right? Even the socks that you didn’t ask for, and the underwear you hurriedly put out of sight?
Last week the first episodes of the RetroFit podcast rolled off the production line, flew the coop and mixed further metaphors in the ears of kind, wonderful listeners. Since then, they have found new homes on iTunes, Stitcher, PlayerFM, TuneIn and, hopefully, any other podcast service or app that you or I care to mention. There is now a RetroFit Twitter feed, and I'm venturing back into the murky world of Facebook to post RetroFit news on its very own Page there.
Nearly four months ago now, I stood on a set of fancy new wi-fi scales which reliably informed me that I weighed 129.9kg (285lbs/20st5lb). Now, I'm not one to panic, but I couldn't ignore the need to start addressing the issue at hand.
